Five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Mumbai Indians will hope to add another title to their rich list. The Rohit Sharma-led side had a different auction this time around as one looks at them and feels a bit worried. They didn’t try to retain much of their squad and went too heavy on Ishan Kishan. MI have an interesting side this time around with several of their cream players gone. It will be a challenge for MI to show the kind of authority they enjoyed of late.
The big move for MI in the auction was to get back Ishan Kishan. They spent in excess of Rs 15 crore for the talented Kishan. MI played safely from there on. They roped in Jofra Archer for a heavy sum, but the fact he will be available from 2023 onwards suggests the gamble MI went for. The side is also weak in terms of spin, besides a weak link resembling the batting. It remains to be seen how MI can go on and find a way to come out on top.
One hopes MI can challenge the trophy and find ways to show the mettle we know they can be capable of. Here are the complete details of MI.
THE PLAYERS’ MI HAD RETAINED
With the IPL set to be a 10-team affair, the existing teams had an opportunity to retain at least four players ahead of the auction. MI retained skipper Rohit Sharma for Rs 16 crore. They spent Rs 12 crore for Jasprit Bumrah. Another Rs 8 crore was spent on Suryakumar Yadav and Rs 6 crore on Kieron Pollard. They started the auction with Rs 48 crore.
