In recent years, science has slowly crept up on the sporting world as contenders search for the marginal gains that combine to offer the biggest rewards. Of course, professional golf, with its growing army of swing experts, fitness coaches, mind gurus and nutritionists, is a perfect example of this push towards a more holistic and clinical approach. Thankfully, there are a handful of players still happy to buck the trend, none more successfully and flamboyantly than Bubba Watson. His approach to the game is unique and this extends to the equipment he carries in his bag. In this exclusive interview, the two-time Masters Champion talks through his extraordinary line-up.
DRIVER
Ping G400 LST, 7.6"
Shaft: Grafalloy BiMatrix Pink X I have a Ping G400 LST, low-spin driver and it’s pink! It only has 7.6°of loft and I have a custom shaft that came out in 2002, so I’ve played the same shaft ever since then! I love it – there has never been another shaft that I can hit what I like to call the ‘dink cut’ and the ‘high bomb’ with, so I can do everything with it.
My clubhead speed is around 120mph and my carry distance when I’m hitting my ‘find-the-fairway dink cut’ is around 290 yards rolling out to 300 yards. If I were getting after it, I’d say it would be more like a 320-yard carry if I hit it with no wind. I can do a lot with this club. I like to play a cut most of the time, but if I have to, I can draw it a little bit, even though this particular driver is built to not draw the ball.
FAIRWAY WOOD
Ping G, 13.2"

Is it Time for the Presidents Cup to Be Scrapped? - The next instalment of the USA v Internationals match takes place in Canada at the end of September. But should the one-sided affair continue?
The next instalment of the USA v Internationals match takes place in Canada at the end of September. But should the one-sided affair continue? Why would anyone even suggest such a drastic course of action? It may sound harsh, but since the inaugural event in 1994, the International team has managed just one victory and one tie while the American team has won 12 times, including nine straight from 2005. It is 26 years since the International team's solitary success in 1998 at Royal Melbourne under the captaincy of the late Peter Thomson.
