Charli Parcs looks the pick if he swerves the Supreme Novices on opening day.
Triumph Hurdle
JP McManus has a strong hand in this year’s renewal as he owns both Defi Du Seuil and CHARLI PARCS who dominate the market.
Plans are up in the air at the moment regarding which one turns up, with Charli also listed for Tuesday’s Supreme Novices, but both trainers have been quite bullish about their horse’s chance in this race so it will be interesting to see which one breaks first, if any.
Nicky Henderson has a strong hand in the Supreme so I can see why he would be hesitant to throw Charli Parcs into the mix but at the same time it looks quite a competitive race so Philip Hobbs, quite rightly, thinks this might be the easier target.
But it’s Henderson’s charge which I will be siding with as his British debut was one of the most taking performances seen this season. He tore apart what turned out to be a strong field at Kempton and his trainer was very quick to talk him up after the race, so that must be a good indicator as to what he thinks of him. He jumped and travelled beautifully that day which allowed Noel Fehily to put him wherever he wanted him and when he felt they couldn’t take him any further, he went on and kicked for home. It was evident how easy it was and when that happens it normally means you’ve found a good one.
Defi Du Seuil has looked machine like so far in his career and has done everything with the minimum of fuss and he will give the selection plenty to think about if both turn up but if Mr McManus decides to let them clash then I can see these two pulling quite a bit clear of the rest.
The Irish contingent have all been beating each other so far this season and Mega Fortune has arguably been the most impressive but they all have something to find with the McManus pair.
Alan King’s Cosmeapolitan would be an interesting runner at a big price if he bypasses the Fred Winter in preference for this.
