It’s not simply writing Ohio State’s pass rusher Chase Young on the card and never looking back. Oh, that’s one way to do it and it may be the way Washington handles the pick. But there’s so many variables to consider.
Cincinnati goes first and is expected to select LSU quarterback Joe Burrow. That would make things simple. Really, at most Cincinnati trades the pick and someone else takes Joe Burrow. But if the near impossible happens and Burrow is there at No. 2, do the Redskins take him? Oh yeah, Burrow is a generational talent and Dwayne Haskins becomes the backup. There’s maybe a one percent chance of this happening.
Young seems a natural pick for a defensive coach like Ron Rivera to take. He is supposedly this year’s version of San Francisco’s Nick Bosa. The Redskins are returning to a 4-3 defense and Young would be a natural addition that might be another Dexter Manley for a decade.
OK, we’re done, right? Who doesn’t want perhaps their best defensive lineman since the Super Bowl days a generation ago?
But the phone rings. Detroit at No. 3 or Miami at No. 5 is scrambling for Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
