Jimmy Butler seems to have finally found a home, and the Miami Heat are the better for it

In 2015, satirical rapper/songwriter Froggy Fresh released a video that made Jimmy Butler a household name to millions of YouTube viewers.

Butler, then the Chicago Bulls’ 25-year-old shooting guard, never appears in the video. But it’s clear who the star of “Jimmy Butler is Your Father” is: Butler. Froggy Fresh (real name: Tyler Cassidy) weaves a tale about how the Butler-led Bulls would dispose of he’s-back-again LeBron James Cleveland Cavaliers, presumably leading up to the 2015 Eastern Conference semifinals.

Along with sidekicks Money Maker Mike and Gator Jones, Froggy Fresh dishes on Butler :

Yeah, I’m talking about that man, Jimmy Butler

Put the whoopin’ on the Cavs, they’s imposters

I ain’t gon’ lie, LeBron, you’s a baller

But Jimmy Butler is your father!

That was five years, and for Butler, four franchises ago.

Butler spent his first six seasons in Chicago after the Bulls selected him out of Marquette in 2011 with the final pick of the first round of the NBA Draft. He was primarily a bench guy that first season but developed into a three-time All-Star with the club – albeit one the Bulls were not going to pay when the time came.

And so he was dealt to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Draft night 2017, which made headlines. The tenure didn’t last long, just one full season and 10 games of the next before Butler essentially showed himself out the door with behavior that included verbally assaulting coaches, management, and some teammates during a team scrimmage.
