Hogan Calls On Pal Shaun To Give Dragons A Boost
The Cricket Paper|February 09,2018

MICHAEL Hogan will captain Glamorgan in four-day cricket again this year but the veteran seamer might have pulled off his greatest tactical trick before a ball has been bowled.

Hogan Calls On Pal Shaun To Give Dragons A Boost

The 36-year-old, skipper of the red-ball team on an interim basis last year before his permanent appointment at the end of the season, used his Western Australian contacts over the winter to bring Shaun Marsh to Sophia Gardens.

Marsh – who made 445 runs this past Ashes at an average north of 70 – could prove to be just the replacement Glamorgan need for the retired Jacques Rudolph.

And Hogan, who spent five years playing his Sheffield Shield cricket at the WACA, is confident Marsh is just the man to inspire a batting lineup that was flimsy at best for much of last year.

“Shaun coming in is massive for us,” he said. “It shows the direction that the club is looking to take. It’s an impressive signing.

“It’s the first time we have had a current international as our overseas for quite a period of time.

“It’s exciting for us as a team, but also for the young guys to watch the way Shaun goes about his business.

“I know him quite well. I wouldn’t say I played a massive role in getting him here. But it probably helps that he knows someone here.
