FOR more than a decade Boyd Rankin was a mainstay of the Warwickshire bowling attack – establishing himself as one of the county game’s most consistent performers.
Now he’s hoping to replicate what he achieved with the Bears in Irish domestic cricket after signing a central contract with Cricket Ireland back in January.
And he has an admission as he speaks to The Cricket Paper on the eve of the one-day international between England and Ireland in Dublin.
For the moment, the 34-year-old is not pining for county cricket one little bit, despite a recent return to the Midlands.
“I wouldn’t say that I miss it that much if I’m to be honest,” he says. “I would say, however, that it was a little strange for me not being against England at Lord’s starting on July 24 as well as competing with Eoin Morgan’s England side in today’s ODI at Malahide, the venue of last season’s inaugural Test.
“The weather wasn’t great in Spain,” he says. “But the sun was shining back here. What are the odds of that?
“Everything now, though, is geared to the one-dayer this week and then the ODI series against the West Indies, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
