Last year, Sony gave us a taste of their cognitive intelligence technology and XR processor with their A-series OLED television line-up and left us thoroughly impressed. Now their 2022 line-up is here, and the first devices to hit the market are the X-series of 4K Full Array LED TVs. These may not have the glamour and glitz associated with thin-film OLEDs, yet LEDs are still the TV of choice for those who want a large TV in their living rooms without spending too much.
Being a full array LED, the XR X90K has individual LED light sources covering the entire back of the panel and hence offers uniform illumination comparable to OLEDs, unlike edge-lit LEDs. Though the blacks are not true deep blacks as in OLEDs, the panel reproduces better blacks than most LEDs. Cognitive intelligence allows the system to behave the same way as a human think, analysing the data and adjusting the display characteristics taking normal human perspective into consideration. To achieve this, the XR processor breaks the data into macroscopic details such as relative position of subjects, focus, colour etc and applies necessary correction based on the stored and learned information about human perception. We are unable to verify the workings of this, however the resulting visuals are certainly stunning. With Dolby Vision and Imax Enhanced modes, the TV provides true cinematic experience. XR Triluminos Pro utilises the rich colour depth offered by wide colour gamut and 3D colour algorithm.
