Monitor Audio Silver 100 - 1,24,999
What Hi-Fi|August 2020
If we review any more products in Monitor Audio’s sixth-generation Silver range, we may need a new thesaurus. Having reviewed the Silver 200s and the corresponding surround package, we have already used up quite a few of our superlatives.
Monitor Audio Silver 100 - 1,24,999

These larger of two pairs of stand mounters in the Silver series each use a single, 20cm C-CAM (ceramic-coated aluminium/magnesium) mid/ bass driver. It’s the same basic design as the two 13cm units used in the Silver 200 floor standers, despite being bigger.

A HiVe II port is again a feature. This uses a straight-rifled design to accelerate airflow and reduce turbulence. It moves air in and out more swiftly for a faster, more powerful bass response.

And there’s the same 25mm gold dome tweeter, a Monitor Audio staple fine-tuned for clearer, smoother and distortion-free high frequencies. That intricate pattern around the driver's central dome is designed to improve sound dispersion, but it has the beneficial side effect of also looking rather attractive.

Visual appeal

Our review sample this time is finished in walnut, but other options on offer are the same as throughout the range – black oak, natural oak, rosenut and high-gloss black, as well as the satin white we've seen before.

No matter which finish you go for, you’ll be treated to a standard of build and finish that is without peer in this company. They might be clearly more expensive than any of the other cabinets in this Round-up, but an overall feeling of luxury shows you just where your money has gone.
