There is one unmistakable and distinctive trilling song that rings through the bushveld to herald summer. The characteristic tjik-trrrrrrrrrrrrr is synonymous with woodland areas in the more mesic [moderately moist – Ed.] northern and eastern parts of South Africa, wherever large trees provide suitable cavities for nesting. This can be quite far from water.
