Buffy The Cold Slayer
go! - South Africa|April/May 2021
The humble tube scarf is the multi-tool of clothing. It’s a bandana, cap, sweatband, mask, handkerchief – and an emergency bandage if necessary. These days, even Benji the bull terrier has his own Buff®.

• BUFF® MEDITERRANEA

One would imagine that a seam piece of material to keep your n your head covered would be as old as the first piece of leather tanned by humans. But it was only in 1991 that Joan Rojas, a Spanish motorcycle enthusiast whose family happened to own a textile factory, thought of something that could protect him from the sun and wind on his rides around Barcelona. He wanted a clothing accessory that was lightweight, comfortable andmulti-functional. After playing around with several prototypes, he eventually patented a seamless microfibre tube known as the “Buff”.

Today, the company has hundreds of designs and styles to choose from. This fun one is part of the Buff® professional range, aimed at people working in kitchens. It keeps your hair out of your eyes (and out of the food) and the material is treated with special antibacterial silver ions that keep food odours like garlic and onion at bay. R247 takealot.com

• KRANK'D MULTI BICYCLE

If you want to cover any kind of distance on a bicycle, a tube scarf is indispensable. Use it as a headband underneath your helmet in summer to keep the sweat out of your eyes, over your whole head to combat wind chill in autumn, and as a scarf that you can pull up to cover your mouth and nose when the winter sun struggles to breach the horizon.

Krank’d is a South African company that caters for cyclists, with a range of T-shirts, baggies, caps and socks. The design might be tongue-in-cheek, but the quality is top-notch and the pricing is reasonable.
