Sometimes when your body refuses to heal even after proper medication and diet, it may be because of a chakra imbalance. BHG tells you how the all-powerful energy wheels dictate your life.

Nandini Banerjee
Circle Of Life
I was 29 years old when I faced one of the worst health phases of my life. I was gaining weight at an alarming rate even though I had cut down my diet by about 50 per cent and increased my regular fitness regime. Then came the incessant colds, coughs, stomach upsets, fevers, acne, pigmentation and hair fall. After three months of misery and with no medication showing results, my mother asked me to visit her astrologer, someone who was also deeply entrenched in ayurveda and spirituality. He heard me out and simply told me that the chakras in my body were imbalanced, causing the health issues. I was taken aback. What were these chakras and who would help me balance them? It was my yoga trainer who came to my rescue, and the revelations set me on the path to understanding the concept better. Here’s what I learnt.

Energy boom

In simple words, chakra refers to the energy wheels in our body, which are formed where major nerves intersect. Jaipur-based Sanmati Sanyam, a pranic healing practitioner and a mental strength trainer, explains that much like the physical body, which has major and minor organs, the energy body has major, minor and mini chakras. “They absorb, digest and distribute prana (invisible energy resource) to different parts of the body. It is these wheels that control and energise, and are responsible for the proper functioning of the physical body. Each chakra has a physiological and psychological function.”
