We spoke to a few busy professionals in the spa and salon business to find out how they stay stress-free and relaxed with their long working hours and demanding schedules.
Isn’t it an irony that while the world trots a spa or a salon to relax and de-stress, the poor professional working at these institutions is stressed out and harried as she strives to massage out the last vestiges of tension from her clients? However, since the hallmark of this service industry is a welcoming smile and a spa or salon professional can’t afford to let the pressures of the job get the better of them, we spoke to some leading therapists from the beauty industry to find out how they deal with the stresses and strains of the job.
A typical day at the job for J Tara Herron, Director, The Imperial Spa, Salon and Health & Racquet Club, Delhi, includes, “reviewing financial reports, attending meetings with other departments, liaising with the managers to implement certain tasks, checking all areas physically to ensure consistency of set-ups and ambience, holding team meetings, empowering and rewarding staff, writing press articles, developing new spa promotions and packages, creating new signature elements, in-house marketing strategies, recruitment/interviews, meeting guests, resolving operational issues.” Phew! The list is endless.
YOGA AND NUTRITION
It is essential for a spa and salon professional to remain healthy by eating right and fitting in some amount of exercise in their day.
Herron says, “Beginning your day consciously and mindfully sets up the inner scaffolding of your body and mind. This will also help to address each situation with the qualities you wish to achieve for your guest. I am so grateful for knowing how to maintain my own wellbeing through yoga and nutrition. These are skills one cannot underestimate as the benefits are accumulative,” she says.
