GROOMING young girls into future leaders has become one of the most important movements in the world. Tru FM’s station manager, Thobeka Buswana, is playing her part in empowering young girls through her educational camps, where she provides them with the necessary tools to help them navigate through life.

DEVELOPING THE GIRL CHILD

Thobeka recently launched the Thobeka Buswana School for Girls, which focuses mainly on girls between the ages of 10 and 19.

“I was a teenager myself and I have a 12-yearold daughter and a three-year-old son. I teach my daughter a lot of things, but I realised that other girls also need to be trained at a very early age to become great leaders. There are government programmes that deal with children and women, but I have not come across programmes that focus mainly on teenagers. I felt that teenagers are neglected,” says Thobeka.

Born and raised in Duncan Village, East London, Thobeka says her school is made up of two programmes with three different phases.
