Traditions and Tinsel – how the British Royal Family spent Christmas then and now…

A Royal Right Christmas!

The Queen broke tradition last year for Meghan Markle by inviting her over for Christmas dinner before she became an official member of the Royal Family. And rumour has it the Duchess of Sussex’s mother, Doria Ragland, will also have a seat at the table this year. Doria has spent a lot more time in the UK since her daughter announced her pregnancy and rumours abound that she may move permanently to this country. Meghan is, after all, her only child.

As an official Royal now, a lot more is likely to be expected of the Duchess this year. Meghan should keep it as tasteful as last year. During the black-tie dinner on Christmas Eve she can glam things up a bit as other members of the Royal Family wear their most lavish jewellery. Meghan has been the perfect princess so far!

Trendy Trees

Prince Albert is often credited with introducing the Christmas tree to Britain from Germany following his marriage to Queen Victoria in 1840. However, Christmas trees had actually been part of Royal festive celebrations since the late 18th century, when the first Christmas trees were set up by Queen Charlotte, who brought the tradition with her from her native Germany.
