The Palace is Transformed Into an Opulent Time Capsule

Her Majesty looked delighted to visit a new exhibition about the life of her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria.

The monarch toured the exhibition, called Queen Victoria’s Palace, before she opened Buckingham Palace to the public for the summer.

“This exhibition is a bit of a departure for us because we tend to focus on Her Majesty the Queen and the royal family,” explains exhibition curator Lucy Peter, “but this time we are doing something historical to mark Queen Victoria’s 200th birthday.”

Historian Dr Amanda Foreman, another curator of the exhibition, says the Queen (93) loved her sneak peek. “She was totally engrossed.”

Exhibits include personal items, including some of Victoria’s gowns, the first baby shoes of her eldest son Prince Albert Edward, who became Edward VII, plus a specially made casket in which Victoria stored the baby teeth of her nine children – and casts of their arms and legs!
