MEET THE ROYAL SUPERFANS!

JUBILEE SPECIAL

‘The Queen is the definition of the British spirit’

Julie Savage, 64, is retired and lives in Salisbury with her husband Mark, also 64.

Ten years ago, when the Queen celebrated her Diamond Jubilee, I was part of a planning committee that put together a wonderful street party to celebrate. This year, we’re planning the same and have already received a temporary road closure permit from our local council.

We live on a cul-de-sac in Salisbury and there are eight of us on the committee, with a great deal to organise.

TEAM EFFORT

Like last time, all the residents on our street – made up of 33 households – are helping out with equipment, offering up garden furniture, tables, chairs, parasols and sun shades. We’ve asked everyone for a small contribution to go towards the activities and games, like crown-making and egg-and-spoon races. There’ll be a tombola, too, with various prizes, and a Right Royal Quiz!

‘THERE’LL BE A TOMBOLA AND A RIGHT ROYAL QUIZ!’

In 2012, we catered for 50 people – which was a mammoth task – so this year we’ve asked everyone to bring food for the occasion. As well as local residents, people have invited family and friends, so we’re expecting at least 50 people, including my son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren. My husband Mark is on the committee, too, and it’s a fun project for us to work on together.
