Do you have a niggling health issue that you keep dismissing? You’re not alone – 31%* of Brits take an average of eight months to seek help for a medical problem. But that procrastination could have serious consequences, especially when it comes to cancer. ‘With all cancers, the best outcomes are with early treatment and diagnosis,’ says Dr Ross Perry, medical director of CosmedicsUK. ‘It’s best to be alert to any signs or symptoms and see a GP quickly if you’re worried. They can put your mind at rest or refer you, if necessary.’ Here’s what to look out for…

Persistent heartburn

Certain foods, alcohol and stress are a common cause of heartburn, indigestion and acid reflux. But if simple lifestyle changes and pharmacy medicine, such as antacids, aren’t helping or you have heartburn most days for three weeks or more, speak to your GP. It could be a sign of stomach, throat or even ovarian cancer. ‘Some people are more prone to heartburn than others, but it’s worth getting it checked out,’ says Dr Perry.

Repeated infections
