It's time to stop throwing away all those kitchen scraps - they're often packed with health-boosting nutrients and you'll also save some cash
TOO GOOD TO WASTE

With the rising cost of living and the uncertainty in the world, it's no wonder many of us want to save money where we can. One of the easiest ways is in the kitchen - which is great news, seeing as a typical UK family throws away £840* worth of food a year.

What's even more shocking is that plenty of those scraps can be saved and savoured - and many of them are loaded with nutrients. Check out the health benefits of your kitchen leftovers and these clever, waste-free ways of using them...

AVOCADO STONES

Avocados are packed full of goodness, but the stone is thrown away when, believe it or not, using it in a 'tea' can aid digestion. 'Simply place the avocado stone in a small pan of water and simmer for five minutes,' says Emilie Vanpoperinghe, co-founder of Oddbox. 'Chop finely, then add to your teapot and infuse in boiling water for five minutes. Strain into your cup and stir in some honey?'

VEGETABLE PEELINGS

We usually peel potatoes, carrots or parsnips then bin the skin. But the peelings are fibre packed and full of antioxidants. Instead, turn them into healthy crisps. Spritz with olive oil and bake at 200C/Gas 6 for 15 to 20 minutes.

Every day 4.4 million potatoes go to waste in UK homes*.
