The Aussie TV icon celebrated a big milestone at home with lashings of love and a dash of his trademark humour

Beloved quiz maestro Tony Barber quietly celebrated his 80th birthday recently at home, reassuring fans he’s lost none of his energy or cheekiness, after spending more than 50 years entertaining Aussies on stage and TV.

“It’s amazing – even people in their 30s and 40s will tell me how their granny made them watch me,” laughs the star, who’s been a household name since breaking into showbiz as the host of Great Temptation in 1970.

“I get a lot of, ‘Let’s go shopping.’ I get a lot of, ‘What’s in the gift shop?’, and occasionally someone will say ‘sale of the century’ in that voice.”
