Suri has found a stash of notes between the pair – and it’s broken Katie’s heart all over again

When Katie Holmes surprised Tom Cruise with divorce papers in 2012, her lawyer's dad instructed her to “keep everything” until their daughter Suri comes of age.

Katie had no idea that eight years later, 14-year-old Suri would find the documents – stashed in a box once thought to be out of her reach – that includes intimate love letters from the early days of her parents’ romance when Tom would write Katie love sonnets.

“It was a real bittersweet moment for both Katie and Suri,” says a long-time family friend. “Katie did plan on showing Suri some of them one day, but an edited-down batch of the papers. Katie wasn’t prepared for Suri’s billions of questions at all.”

Suri came across Katie’s secret papers while at grandparents Martin and Kathleen Holmes’ house in Toledo, Ohio, where they escaped from New York’s coronavirus outbreak.
