The past month has been one that the Duchess of Cornwall would rather forget, so it’s no surprise that when it came to celebrating Camilla’s 70th birthday last week, her devoted husband Prince Charles was determined to make her smile.

While he could have opted for expensive jewels or a lavish holiday away, Woman’s Day can reveal that the heir gave his wife of 12 years a gift that money couldn’t buy.

“He sat Camilla down and finally said the words, ‘My darling, you will be Queen,’” a palace insider reports. “Charles knows how much Camilla wants for them to be king and queen, but she has felt like she is living in the shadow of Kate these past few years – and before that, Diana. It hasn’t been easy for her.”
