Josie Desgrand pinches herself as she’s zipped into the sequined size-10 scarlet dress she chose for her school ball. “I’m so excited,” she exclaims. “I feel like Blake Lively!”

The 17-year-old had dreamed of going to her formal feeling like a princess, but last year she thought it was an impossible fantasy. The Queensland teen was the victim of heartless bullying. Overweight and depressed at 120kg, she hardly left her house and often cried herself to sleep.

Finally, last October, she’d had enough. Standing in front of a mirror in a clothing store, she decided to reinvent herself. A year on, her determination has resulted in a remarkable transformation – and now she’s heading to the ball!
