Little indulgences here and there are to be expected, but if you find yourself craving sugary foods intensely, it may be time to look at why this is the case. Dr. Michelle Celander, director of program and science at WW, explains.

WHY IT HAPPENS

“Neuroscience research shows that [eating] sugar lights up the same pleasure-stimulating sites in our brains as addictive drugs, releasing a chemical called dopamine, which gives us euphoric, happy feelings,” says Dr Celander. She adds that over time we also make associations between certain foods and environmental cues, triggering our cravings.
