How the multitasking host overcame his baby blues
Having missed the birth of his first child, Matt Chisholm vowed to make it up to his wife with baby number two.
So in the early hours of April 16, when Ellen went into labour for a second time, the popular host of Survivor NZ was prepared to pull out all the stops in the delivery room. But no amount of dad jokes or back rubs could ever compare to witnessing the love of his life bring their son, Finn Nicholas Chisholm into the world.
“Being there with Elle was an overwhelming experience on many levels,” beams the proud father as he introduces Finn, now three months, at our exclusive shoot. “To observe what women go through gave me a whole new appreciation for the mother of my babies.
“I couldn’t have been more in awe of Elle as she delivered our little guy or more grateful for the chance to soak in those precious first moments of Finn’s life together – something we missed with his big brother.”
Indeed, when the couple’s eldest son, 22-month-old Bede was born in 2016, Matt was half-way across the world in Nicaragua, filming the first season of the TVNZ 2 reality show. It was the 23-hour plane ride home that robbed Matt of experiencing his first-born’s arrival, making him even more determined to be involved with every stage of Finn’s birth.
However, having recently been appointed as Sunday’s new reporter on TVNZ 1, timing was once again tight for Matt.
