When Woman’s Day catches up with Toni Street and her husband Matt France at their bustling home on Auckland’s North Shore, the beloved broadcaster is quick to apologise for the fact they’re still in their tracksuits from a morning workout.
“The first lockdown, we both ate like pigs and drank too much,” she explains, laughing. “We decided we couldn’t do that the second time round, so we’ve been going hard for a six-week F45 challenge so when we get to Queenstown in October, we can deserve all the alcohol. It’s quite a punish!”
The week-long holiday – with their three children, Juliette, seven, Mackenzie, five, and Lachie, two, plus Toni’s parents and her sister’s family – will be one last relaxing blowout before life gets a whole lot busier.
From December, as well as her radio duties on Coast’s breakfast show, the former Seven Sharp presenter, 37, will return to TVNZ as the host of the network’s America’s Cup coverage.
“I started my career in sports reporting, so it’s the dream job,” grins Toni. “I’ll be in this incredible studio on the waterfront, right in the thick of the action. It’ll be huge for Kiwis – and even bigger after such a crappy 2020. We’ll be so ready to celebrate and I want to be part of that vibe!”
It’s a job Toni fell into back in 2013, when, as the host of Breakfast, she was flown to San Francisco just as Team New Zealand seemed set to defeat cup defenders Team Oracle USA.
