They’re keeping things private for Archie
For a regal baby, their christening is usually a grand occasion, not only for members of the monarchy, family and friends to celebrate the new arrival, but also a chance for royal fans around the world to coo over Their Royal Cuteness.
Traditionally, the royal couple allows select photographers to capture the event, letting gorgeous images of the little one be beamed globally.
So when it was revealed last week that the
Duke and Duchess of Sussex would instead be hosting a private affair to christen two-month-old Archie in the Queen’s chapel at Windsor Castle for just 25 guests and no press, it certainly ruffled feathers through Great Britain and beyond. Not only would fans miss out seeing the procession into the event, but Harry, 34, and Meghan, 37, announced they’d only be releasing “a small selection” of photos afterwards.
Their decision to keep the christening – and even the godparents – under wraps has plunged them into yet another crisis, with critics already fuming over the taxpayer-funded luxury upgrade to their home Frogmore Cottage.
As fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment, royal author Penny Juror also spoke out, saying, “They can’t have it both ways. Either they are totally private, pay for their own house and disappear out of view, or they play the game the way it’s played. Seeing Archie and his godparents arriving at the christening is what people are interested in.”
TV star Piers Morgan also joined the chorus, saying, “This baptism should be public or the public should get their £2.4 million back.”
Woman’s Day can also reveal that the Queen – who was unlikely to attend due to a diary clash – has made her displeasure widely known, issuing her grandson a stern reminder of his obligations.
