Cat Talk|December 2023
We all adore our feline friends. It’s one of the main reasons why we showcase them at shows and share their beauty with the world, For me, the love of my cats is what fuels my passion for them.

When we attend cat shows, we prioritize the safety of our feline companions. I feel compelled to share this article in hopes that cat owners will consider their cats’ safety going to and attending cat shows, even if not everyone agrees with my points.

Perhaps gaining a fresh perspective on this topic is possible by using a familiar but different scenario.

Past Reminders of Human Safety in Cars

The more mature among us recall how safety in cars has evolved over the past seven decades. As a child, I enjoyed sitting in the front seat of cars, as it provided a better view of the world around me. I fondly remember the excitement of discovering new things around every corner. Seat belts were not a common feature in cars back then, and wearing them was not a requirement. I never wore a seat belt as a child, and neither did my peers. Thankfully, we experienced no accidents during that time; otherwise, I might not be here to share these memories. However, many children did die by not wearing seatbelts. A friend told me the story of how she once fell out of her parent’s car when she was a toddler.

The evolution of car safety for people has been slow. By 1968, seat belts, padded dashboards, and other safety features had become mandatory equipment, but most people did not wear them. Some believed that they would not be able to get out of the car in case of an accident. Laws had to be passed to compel people to wear seat belts, but this only happened between 1985 and 1993, depending on the state. Later, shoulder harnesses and airbags became mandatory by federal law.

UP CLOSE AND Purr-sonal

If there is one person, or even just a name, that anyone in CFA (Cat Fancier Association) knows, it would have to be Allene Tartaglia. It might be from her involvement with most aspects of the operations of CFA in her position of executive director. Or perhaps from her deep involvement with both the CFA Annual meeting and/or the International Show. Cat Talk thought it was time to learn more about one of the most key people in CFA.
