What You Don't Know About Ragdolls

It's no wonder that so many of them gravitate towards the Ragdoll! To get a good sense of this mellow, incredibly popular breed, think "Feline meets Raggedy Ann equals Ragdoll!" Based on CFA registration data, the Ragdoll is currently the world's most popular breed of cat. These large and luscious cats are more interested in the comings, goings and mostly "stayings" of their humans! "Ragdolls are large, laid-back, semi-longhaired cats with captivating blue eyes. The Ragdoll is a pointed breed, which means that the body is lighter in color than the points (the face, legs, tail and ears). The Ragdoll cat is carefully bred to produce large affectionate animals."

The breed comes in four patterns: bi-color, van, mitted and colorpoint. Each pattern occurs in six different colors: seal, blue, chocolate, lilac, red, and cream. Points may be solid, lynx, tortie, or torbie (tortie and lynx). If you do the math, you can see that there are quite a large number of different combinations possible! CFA accepts bi-color and van patterns, mitted and colorpoints for showing in the full array of color combinations."

These striking felines are famous for their relaxed demeanor, which is most apparent when they are picked up. Somewhat doglike, Ragdolls follow their human family about the house, greet them at the door, and are most at home when occupying a lap. "Ragdolls are well-behaved, and easy to care for - perfect for our modern, busy, lifestyles."!

UP CLOSE AND Purr-sonal

If there is one person, or even just a name, that anyone in CFA (Cat Fancier Association) knows, it would have to be Allene Tartaglia. It might be from her involvement with most aspects of the operations of CFA in her position of executive director. Or perhaps from her deep involvement with both the CFA Annual meeting and/or the International Show. Cat Talk thought it was time to learn more about one of the most key people in CFA.
