UNDER THE WEATHER Generalised Alopecia

Generalised alopecia, also called hair shedding, is a very common reason we see patients in practise.

However, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to managing alopecia. This is because the reasons are many, ranging from nutritional imbalance to ticks or flea infestation or skin allergies. How do you decide when hair shedding is normal (seasonal shedding) or whether it’s a problem? There is no clear-cut answer, but if the shedding seems excessive or is accompanied by any other symptoms like skin eruptions or scratching, then you should definitely take your pet to the vet.
