‘Mansarovar’, named after the abode of Lord Shiva, resides a family of six. Distinct in appearance, this doublestory bungalow manages to combine nostalgia with the practicalities of modern living and luxury. This is evident in the rustic exterior material palette, masterfully curated Indian decor items, and a keen reverence for traditional architectural elements.
“The client, Mr Bajaj, wanted a residence with a quiet sensibility and a sense of space in its ethos,” shares Manish Kumat, the mastermind behind the design. “Functionally, they wanted a home with distinct public and private areas; a formal drawing room along with a family room with an adjoining dining room and a contiguous kitchen, besides four spacious bedrooms, sit-outs, a home theatre; ample storage space, ventilation, natural light and greenery,” he adds.
IN TUNE WITH NATURE
To meet his requirements, the interior of the house is focused around a grand double-height foyer and an elliptical staircase which acts as a central zone for the common areas and the master bedroom on the ground floor. The architecture resonates simplicity and strength through straight lines, a façade of exposed brick walls and muted grey-green paint with subtle texture, slight set-backs to create interest, and a boundary wall of the same code as the structure.
