"A museum is a place where one should lose one's head."- Renzo Piano
Museums are experiences that can move us beyond imagination, they can change us as people, make us dream, give us a glimpse of human nature, and make us believe in the many possibilities of tomorrow. Museums are not only about who humans were, but rather who we continue to be and eventually who we aspire to become.
Standing outside a museum, the mind is always filled with anticipation, waiting to unravel the mystery, masterfully unpacked by experts, curators and designers. As one excitedly moves through the foyer to one of the first exhibits, the museum starts to reveal its secrets. Sometimes this is reflected through the grandeur of an open space as seen at Plateforme 10 in Lausanne, and on other occasions like the glimpse through a narrow passage, helping the visitor be mindful as they step into the International Museum of the Red Cross in Geneva.
Over a whirlwind of a 10-day architecture and design tour, we had a chance to look at some of the best museums Switzerland has to offer. A journey which started in Geneva at the Red Cross, took us through histories, present and future scenarios.
Over a whirlwind of a 10-day architecture and design tour, we had a chance to look at some of the best museums Switzerland has to offer. A journey which started in Geneva at the Red Cross, took us through histories, present and future scenarios. From archives of displaced children, documentation in search for lost family members, to individual artefacts from the wars-one was confronted with the realities of disastrous conflicts, climatological risks, and other ongoing threats to human life.
