Cummins Inc. is pursuing higher efficiencies for its CEV customers from India. Ashish Bhatia highlights the advancement and customer value propositions.
CUMMINS' OFF-HIGHWAY PLAY

Cummins Inc. relies on a deep duty cycle and application-based experience. The company's focus on off-highway is as intense as its on-road play. A key driver of the sustainable mobility programs at leading Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), the tier 1 supplier as per Antonio Leitao, VP - Off-highway, Engine Business & Europe ABO Leader at Cummins Belgium, is in a critical role to catalyse the energy transition journey.

"I think for us, it is very important to reiterate this at forums. like Excon 2023, where we launched a series of new engines. Be it the 10-litre engine crucial for our onhighway and off-highway customers," he stated. Leitao further added that the company has also introduced hydrogen-based solutions for the market. He believes that the expansion of the product portfolio will help it to better serve global and local customers.

The tier 1 supplier has a range of options, from 4.5 to 6.7-litre at the lower end of the spectrum to 10-15-litre at the other end of the spectrum. We are focused on multiple solutions, from backhoes to excavators, the construction segment, the power segment and so on to give a context. "India is growing and we see the investments in the construction segment as encouraging signs. Offerings like the motor graders are showing signs of growth," he stated.

➤Sustainability with low TCO

While the company builds sustainable solutions it is well aware of the need to offer a low Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) which is of high priority to the customer, explained Leitao. "They care about the TCO and we see more demand for lowering the carbon footprint and additionally compliance-led requirements like CEV Stage V emissions," he said. With the environment and low TCO taking centre stage, the trend suggests that going beyond TCO, the need of the hour is to also have the engine platform as a stable system to build future-ready market solutions.
