With an intent to establish the largest technology centre outside of Sweden, the Volvo Group has chosen India as the destination to set-up its Vehicle Tech Lab. Located in the software capital's Bagmane Tech Park in CV Raman Nagar, Bengaluru, the new tech lab will use state-of-the-art technologies like a virtual reality zone, driving simulator, a 3D printing for prototyping, a live mock-up chassis space and an electromobility zone for development of power electronics for EVs. The new set-up is actually an extension of Volvo's existing Global Truck Technology (GTT) Research & Development Centre in the country. The existing centre has been operational since 1998 and is slated for its silver jubilee next year.
The idea behind this facility-within-a-facility was to efficiently use the company's existing infrastructure to enable ease of prototype demonstration and static verification of product and components on site. The new lab is spread over 6,600 square feet within the Bagmane Tech Park and can accommodate large-sized vehicles, including trucks, cabs as well as master chassis.
