There has been a steady rise in the number of women in leadership roles, creating remarkable impact to the hospitality industry. They have been successful in fostering a more inclusive and varied working culture, balancing work and family life.
'The changing attitudes towards women in the hospitality industry represent a positive and progressive shift towards a more inclusive and equitable workplace,' is the opinion we get as we talk to some of the well known women in the industry. Here we share their thoughts and perceptions and realize how empowering women is such a vital step to ensure the growth and prosperity of the hospitality sector.
Current status of gender equality in the hospitality industry
Vaishali Momaya, General Manager, Operations (Gujarat), The Fern Hotels & Resorts
While there have been positive changes in the hospitality industry, some still doubt the efficiency of women in roles like Front Office, Housekeeping, and Food & Beverage. However, this perception largely depends on how companies set their policies and opportunities for career growth and promotions. When businesses ensure fairness and equality in these aspects, women have an opportunity to succeed in any department. It's about overcoming biases and creating an environment where everyone has an equal chance to excel.
"Throughout my career, I've been fortunate to work within organizations that foster an inclusive and supportive environment, regardless of gender. I've been blessed to have access to excellent mentors and colleagues who have helped me navigate challenges and grow professionally. In this regard, I haven't personally encountered significant barriers to my success or growth solely because of my gender" Vaishali Momaya, General Manager, Operations (Gujarat), The Fern Hotels & Resorts
