It’s a night on which the stars of film and TV are celebrated in a glittering ceremony. And last week, some of the biggest names on our screens graced the red carpet in their most glamorous outfits as they attended the 31st annual Screen Actors Guild awards.
From Demi Moore and Ralph Fiennes to Zoe Saldaña and Timothée Chalamet, Hollywood’s finest attended the only televised awards ceremony that exclusively honours actors, with all categories voted for by members of the SAG-AFTRA union.
The night belonged to two-time Academy Award-winner Jane Fonda, who at the age of 87 was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Wearing a peach sequinned Armani Privé dress, the On Golden Pond star and political activist took to the stage to a standing ovation, telling the audience: “This means the world to me.
“Your enthusiasm makes it seem less like the twilight of my life and more like a: ‘Go girl, kick ass’ – which is good, because I’m not done.”
Adding that she has “had a really weird career”, having retired for 14 years before returning to acting aged 68 and experiencing some of her biggest success in her 80s, the Barbarella star said: “It’s okay to be a late bloomer as long as you don’t miss the flower show. I’m a late bloomer, and this is the flower show.”
Hosted by Nobody Wants This actress Kristen Bell, who wore four different Armani outfits and De Beers and Buccellati jewels, the 31st SAG Awards were streamed on Netflix from Los Angeles’s Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall.
Continuing her awards-season sweep, Demi made it a hat-trick when she scooped Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for body-horror movie The Substance, having won equivalent accolades at the Golden Globes and the Critics Choice Awards.
Wearing a strapless leather gown by Bottega Veneta and a Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany diamond necklace, the mother of three, 62, gave a tearful speech.
