The Prince, 41, journeyed more than 1,000 miles highlighting his mission, enlisting the help of famous faces including former Spice Girl Geri Horner, England football star Tyrone Mings and TV presenter Gail Porter along the way.
He aims to put all six places on a path to ending homelessness within five years, bringing together experts and resources in locally led action plans. It’s estimated that more than 300,000 people – nearly half of them children – are currently sofa surfing, sleeping on the streets, living in cars or staying in hostels and other types of temporary accommodation in the UK.
A royal source tells HELLO!: “It was important for the Prince to be out there this week meeting the communities that Homewards will work in. He’s now looking forward to getting started and working with the local coalitions to get cracking.”
Here we look at the six sites he visited...
LAMBETH
Prince William’s first stop was the London borough of Lambeth, where he evoked memories of his mother Diana, who had introduced him to the issue.
“My first visit to a homelessness shelter was when I was 11 with my mother. The visits we made left a deep and lasting impression. I met so many extraordinary people and listened to so many heartbreaking personal stories.
“Too many people have found themselves without a stable and permanent place to call home,” continued the Prince. “So I am pleased to stand here today officially at the start of our path to ending homelessness.”
