Theirs is one of Hollywood’s most enduring love stories, and now Sarah Jessica Parker and husband Matthew Broderick are the toast of London’s West End, where they are starring in play about relationships.

The couple, who have been married for almost 27 years, were joined by a host of celebrities for the gala opening night of Plaza Suite, in which they portray three different couples, including one whose marriage is on the rocks.

After the performance, they joined famous guests for a starstudded afterparty at London’s Savoy hotel, where Sex and the City star Sarah, 58, channelled her inner Carrie Bradshaw in a stunning sheer dress embellished with gold and silver sequins.

Fans have been flocking to the Savoy Theatre to watch Sarah and Matthew, 61, tread the boards in Neil Simon’s classic 1968 three-act play, which tells the story of three couples who all stay in suite 719 in New York’s Plaza Hotel. The first have a troubled marriage, the second are childhood sweethearts reuniting after two decades and the third are parents whose daughter has locked herself in the bathroom on her wedding day.

Theatergoers have been paying up to £300 for tickets, with champagne packages selling for £395, although the show has received mixed reviews.
