In the past 12 months, Stevie Doc’s life has been turned on its head – in a good way. The 22-year-old Glaswegian has not only graduated from college, but was named the winner of Mamma Mia! I Have a Dream, and this week makes her debut in her first professional role as Sophie in the West End musical Mamma Mia!. “I’m waiting for the bubble to burst – I don’t really believe it’s happening,” she says. “Even in rehearsals, I couldn’t see myself on stage performing in front of people. It’s not felt real since I got the phone call to say I was going on the TV show.”
Stevie won the ITV talent show in a public vote last December, after beating six other potential Sophies along the way, and impressing judges Alan Carr, Samantha Barks, Jessie Ware and Amber Riley.
The role is, she says, “one of the most desirable for any female musical theatre graduate leaving drama school”, and despite her success and excitement, she admits to a feeling of impostor syndrome.
