Born and bred in Mumbai, Aashna Shroff is experimental in both her personality and wardrobe choices. Over the years, varied career moves led her to the path destined for her — to London to study fashion — and today, she’s one of India’s highest-followed social media influencers. A favourite of top Indian and international brands, including Gucci, L’Oréal (for whom she walked the ramp in Paris in 2021), Tory Burch, Dior, Jimmy Choo and many others, Aashna’s style game is always on point and rightly sways the choices of those who look to her for OOTD inspiration. Raised by a single mother, she credits her for her creativity, as she shares a number of other intimate details of her life and work.
Aashna, what led you to become a social media influencer?
I started Instagram on a whim a decade ago. I didn’t think it’d actually lead anywhere, as I was studying interior design at that point. I also really enjoyed fashion, so I shared OOTD photos on my profile every day. People started enjoying those and taking inspiration from them over time. I also followed a few international bloggers, who motivated me to start a blog myself. I didn’t know where it’d lead me or whether I’d be able to make a full career out of it, but that’s how I got into this industry.
What, in your opinion, are the biggest misconceptions industry outsiders have about influencers?
