On an overcast Mumbai morning, we step into one of the city’s chicest restaurants, only to find a coterie of stylists, managers, technicians and make-up artists huddled in a corner. All eyes are (quite literally) trained on Gurfateh Pirzada, who exudes a calm charisma, commanding the room with effortless ease.
The camera adores him, and the room buzzes with admiration as he effortlessly transitions through outfit changes during the fashion shoot. As for his personal style, the actor admits, “It keeps changing every month. I had a phase of florals, one of black-and-white tees and now I’m in the streetwear zone.”
His face may be on billboards today, but it’s truly remarkable to reflect on the obstacles the actor has conquered to reach this stage. Raised by a hardworking mother who strived to provide a better life for him and his sister, Gurfateh found himself in Canada after completing school, harbouring dreams of pursuing a higher education. However, fate had different plans.
The family faced financial hardships, working gruelling 18-hour days and residing in the basement of another family’s home. In an effort to make ends meet, Gurfateh took on various odd jobs at a local grocery store and butcher shop, where he cut meat and cleaned bathrooms. Without a work permit, when his visa expired, he and the family decided to return to India.
