Just 10 days after Prince Harry attended King Charles’ coronation alone, he and wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, put on a united front when they attended a New York gala last Tuesday.
The couple looked every inch the A-listers as Meghan, who was dressed in a strapless gold Johanna Ortiz dress, received a Women Of Vision Award for her advocacy for women and girls.
But an incident involving the paparazzi following the gala has confused fans due to conflicting accounts of what happened.
According to Harry and Meghan’s spokesperson, the couple, who were joined by Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland, were chased by “highly aggressive” paparazzi after the ceremony at the Ziegfeld Ballroom, which resulted in a “near-catastrophic car chase”.
They said, “Last night, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Ms Ragland were involved in a near-catastrophic car chase at the hands of a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi.“This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD officers. While being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public, it should never come at the cost of anyone’s safety.”
Chris Sanchez, a member of the couple’s security team, added that the incident “could have been fatal”.
