Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle began their four-day tour of Colombia last Thursday. According to a source, it’s made them miss elements of the life they chose to leave behind when they stepped down as senior royals in 2020, to start afresh in America.
The source claims that the tour is a reminder of an aspect of their previous royal lifestyle that the couple – particularly Meghan – found so satisfying.
“This Colombian tour is so important to them, especially Meghan, as it gives her the chance to do the stuff she loves. Meeting people and dignitaries is where she shines,” they said.
“She really got a taste for it during her time with the royals, and being able to make a change is what she’s passionate about. It does make her miss that part of being royal. She knows they could have done a lot more tours if they had stayed and been able to be part-time members of the family.”
As a member of the Firm, high-profile tours are a part of royal life. The source claimed that former Suits actress Meghan, 43, “does have regrets, knowing she could do a lot more good if she was doing tours as an official royal family member”.
The pair’s Colombian trip was at the invitation of the country’s vice president, Francia Márquez. Its aim was to “engage with leaders, youth, and women who embody the aspirations and voices of Colombians committed to progress”, as well as to visitthe “vibrant locations” of the capital Bogotá, and the cities of Cartagena and Cali.
No doubt the California-based couple’s star power will have made quite a splash, as they shine a light on elements of the country’s culture – as well as its poverty – and what can be done to help. Just as their three-day visit to Nigeria in May showed, these trips are something the Sussexes love to do, and are clearly very passionate about.
