AND THE WINNER IS...A NIGHT WITH THE STARS

Britain’s top female talent reigned supreme in the 69th Bafta Awards, with Kate Winslet and Claudia Winkleman both scooping two awards each.

And that’s not all... female-focussed comedy shows Derry Girls and Bad Sisters took home gongs, plus the Lionesses’ monumental Euro 2022 campaign reached the top spot for the Best Sports Coverage.

The star-studded event, hosted by comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan, took place in London’s Festival Hall and was attended by some of telly’s best known faces, including Tess Daly, Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, Emma Willis, Laura Whitmore, Oti and Motsi Mabuse, Katie Piper, Dannii Minogue, Billie Piper, Daisy May Cooper, Taron Egerton and Joel Dommett.

Kate Winslet – who looked stunning in a black fitted dress with an asymmetric neckline – won two awards for Channel 4 drama I Am Ruth, which she starred in alongside her real-life children, Mia Threapleton and Joe Anders.

Kate pipped stars including The Crown’s Imelda Staunton and I Hate Suzie Too’s Billie Piper to the post in the lead actress category.

I Am Ruth, about a concerned mother who struggles to help her teenage daughter as she becomes consumed by social media, also won the award for the Best Single Drama.

Referencing the feature-length piece, Kate, 47, said, “This means a great deal, that small British television drama can still be mighty. Real painful stories like this really do happen to women – we need this and we want to be heard.

I Am Ruth was made for parents and their children. If I could cut this [award] in half I would give it to my daughter, Mia Threapleton. She took my breath away.”
