The former tensions between Charles and his grandmother over his relationship with Camilla are brought back into the spotlight in a fascinating new film about the King.
The documentary will also reveal difficult times Charles faced in his youth, struggles he encountered as “monarch in training” and the volatile atmosphere between the Queen Mother and Queen Camilla.
The landmark film King Charles III will be released this month and highlights key themes in the royal’s extraordinary life, such as overcoming barriers and ultimately emerging stronger. This is also is something which has formed the basis of Queen Camilla’s rise in the public eye.
Every up and down, every joy and heartbreak of her life has been documented for the public to salaciously comment on, but the film celebrates the fact that she slowly became “more and more popular every day.” This was hugely impacted by the death of the Queen Mother, royal author Angela Levin points out.
“The Queen Mother died in 2002, aged 101, and that freed Queen Elizabeth II to do more of what she wanted. She adored her mother and obeyed her but she knew that the Queen Mother was furious that her plan had fallen apart… she didn’t want to even hear the name Camilla. So Elizabeth, behaving very well towards her mother, wouldn’t have anything to do with it either.”
Angela adds that once Queen Elizabeth was free from her mother’s out-of-touch values, Camilla quickly gained the monarch’s admiration and respect.
