The last few months have been a whirlwind of change for reality TV favourite Scarlett Moffatt.
Not only has she welcomed baby Jude into the world, but the former Queen of the Jungle admits that becoming a mam has altered her own perspective on life.
“I have a completely different mindset these days – it was like a switch flicked in my head when I became a mam,” Scarlett laughs when we catch up at her home in the north east in her first interview since Jude was born last June.
She adds, “I used to put so much pressure on myself and worry about other people’s opinions. Now? I don’t care. I feel I know myself a lot more. And I’ve given birth to a little human being – that’s amazing.”
It’s clear as we chat that 33-year-old Scarlett, who shares Jude with long-term boyfriend Scott Dobinson, adores her new role as a mam, although her son’s arrival in the world took the couple by surprise.
“I was one of those women who swanned through pregnancy with no sickness, no acid reflux, nothing. I embraced every moment.
“Then, last June at 35 weeks, I was getting ready to go on a spa day for my little sister’s birthday when I suddenly heard a pop. Scott said, ‘Have you just wet the bed?’ But it was my waters partially breaking. So off we went, straight to hospital.”
Jude Xavier arrived by C-section, with Scarlett – who won I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2016 – describing the birth as “very calm”.
She explains, “We had the radio on and Jude was born to the song Man, I Feel Like A Woman which is so ironic as all his Godparents are drag queens. We couldn’t have planned it better!”
