Lincoln Younes - HAIL TO THE KING!

Australia’s own Lincoln Younes is back on our screens for 10 episodes of new operatic drama, Last King of the Cross. Inspired by Sydney identity John Ibrahim’s autobiography of the same name, the show follows his rise from poverty to nightclub tycoon. Saturated with corruption, drugs, gambling, violence and sex, the show takes us back to the ’80s with Younes stepping into the shoes of Ibrahim. The result is an edgy series with a lot of “ambition and heart”.

Congrats on the project! How does it feel saying goodbye to your character, John?

Thank you! Wrapping on any project is always a sad moment. I just practise gratitude for the opportunity and hope it’s only goodbye for now, not forever.

How much research did you do for this role? Did you spend any time in and around Kings Cross?

A lot. I would say the largest portion of research went into investigating the era we portray in the series. I wanted to understand the business, corruption and hedonism of the time, and how the laws of the street played outside of the laws we are familiar with now. That was vital in forming the mentality of the character. I had also spent a lot of time in the Cross, back in its pre-lockout law days, and know viscerally how exciting and volatile it could be. You could say I’ve been researching this role for over a decade.
