How does one predict the next blockbuster of the year? At the Cannes Film Festival, it is measured in standing ovations. Yes, the festival has developed a reputation for providing lengthy applause as eager viewers take to their feet after film premieres. The tradition is so important that people even time the clapping.

The cheers can last anywhere from seconds to one minute, to the longest ever recorded which was 22 minutes for Pan's Labyrinth in 2006 - the enthusiastic response representing a deep love and appreciation of cinema.

Some notable numbers from this year's festival, per Variety's stopwatch, include Rumours, starring Cate Blanchett, receiving a four-minute standing ovation after its screening, while George Miller's Furiosa snagged an equally-lengthy applause.
