Growing up in Oldham, Suranne Jones was well-versed in the stories of the witch trials that occurred in nearby Pendle, Lancashire, in 1612, which resulted in eight women and two men being sentenced to death.
In C4’s two-part documentary Suranne Jones: Investigating Witch Trials, the BAFTA-winning actor explores the history of witch trials, beginning in Pendle, where she uncovers the real story of the mass execution, before travelling to Germany, the epicentre of the brutal witch trials that swept through Europe 400 years ago.
