The Mafia is usually associated with Italy and the USA. But in his new docuseries, ex- EastEnders star Ross Kemp is examining just how far the Mob has infiltrated the UK.
‘The Mafia is defined as an organised crime group that makes illegal money from things like narcotics, money laundering, loan-sharking and gambling,’ explains Kemp. ‘Making this programme has made me aware just how far that web has stretched.’
As Kemp recounts, for most people the first sign that the Mafia was operating in the UK came in 1982, when the body of Vatican banker Roberto Calvi, dubbed ‘God’s Banker’, was found hanging from Blackfriars Bridge in London.
